House Manual

Everything you need during your stay

WiFi, the fireplace, trash, keyless entry, house rules and our favourite local spots — all in one place. Your personal gate, door and WiFi codes live on your private guest page, sent to you as soon as your stay is confirmed.

Gate and door codes are never shown on this page. If you can't find yours, message us and we'll resend your guest page link.

Keyless entry & arrival

  • Check-in is any time after 4:00 PM; checkout is before 10:00 AM.
  • Big Canoe is gated. Every guest must be registered with security before arrival — we take care of that once we have your names, and we need to know in advance if you're arriving in more than one vehicle.
  • The front door has a keypad. Your personal gate and door codes are on your private guest page, which we send when your stay is confirmed — they are never posted publicly.
  • Enter the code, press the checkmark, and turn the handle. To lock up, press the lock button once.
  • There is a Ring camera at the front porch and exterior cameras on the property for security. There are no cameras inside.

WiFi & entertainment

  • The network name and password are on your private guest page, and also printed on the card by the kitchen counter.
  • There is an Ethernet cable in the living room if you would rather plug in for work calls.
  • The 55" HDTV and sound system are in the main living room; a second living area and the loft have seating, board games and books.
  • If the WiFi drops, unplug the black modem and router by the TV console for 30 seconds, then plug them back in and wait two minutes.

Wood-burning fireplace

  • Fires are allowed only in the installed indoor fireplace. Outdoor burning and fire pits are strictly prohibited anywhere in Big Canoe and can bring a $5,000 fine.
  • Open the damper fully before lighting — the handle is inside the top of the firebox. Close it again only once the ashes are completely cold.
  • Use the firewood, kindling and starters provided. Never burn trash, cardboard or treated wood.
  • Keep the fireplace guard in place, especially with children, and never leave a fire burning when you go out or go to bed.
  • Leave ashes in the firebox — we clear them between stays.

Trash & recycling

  • Bag all trash and take it to the Big Canoe recycling and trash centre on your way out — bins are not collected at the cabin, and wildlife will get into bags left outside.
  • Recycling is separated on site: cardboard, mixed paper, plastics, glass and cans.
  • Please run the dishwasher, put food back in the fridge or bin it, and wipe down the grill before you leave.
  • Extra bags are under the kitchen sink.

Kitchen & laundry

  • The kitchen is fully stocked: pots and pans, baking sheets, dishes, wine glasses, coffee maker and coffee, toaster, dishwasher, electric stove and oven.
  • The gas grill is on the deck; utensils are in the drawer beside the stove.
  • The washer and dryer are free to use — detergent is on the shelf above them.
  • Dishwasher pods, paper towels and cleaning supplies are under the sink.

Safety & house rules

  • Because of the loft and circular stairs, children must be 9 years or older. The cabin is not child-proofed.
  • Six guests maximum. Smoke alarm and fire extinguisher are in the kitchen area.
  • Please follow all Big Canoe traffic laws — speed is measured by laser and fines can be issued without being pulled over.
  • Illegal drugs and unlawful activity are strictly prohibited on the property.
  • Tell us right away about any damage or anything that stops working — we would much rather fix it during your stay.

Dogs

  • Dogs up to 50 lbs are welcome with prior approval and a $99 pet fee.
  • Dogs must be house-trained, have trimmed nails, stay leashed outdoors and be crated if left alone in the cabin.
  • Please pick up in the yard and along the trails.

Local guide

Groceries & coffee

North Gate: 3 minutes to a grocery, Myth & Legend Coffee and a few restaurants. Main Gate: 10–13 minutes to Lowes Foods, a full supermarket with deli and bakery. Stock up before 6 PM — options inside the gates are limited in the evening.

Dining

The recently renovated Luxury Clubhouse has a restaurant and bar with lake and mountain views (the ribeye is a favourite). Downtown Jasper, 30 minutes away, has plenty more, plus Walmart, Target and Home Depot.

Trails, lake & amenities

Lake Petit is a 5-minute walk with a sitting area at the water. Big Canoe Playfield Park has trails and a playground. Wellness centre, indoor pool and hot tub, beach club, tennis, pickleball, marina, kayaks and the 27-hole golf course are all on site — some carry a small fee paid on site.

Day trips

Gibbs Gardens is 18 minutes away. Amicalola Falls, Ellijay's apple houses and the north Georgia wineries are all an easy drive, and Atlanta is under an hour.

Checkout is before 10:00 AM — lights off, dishwasher run, trash dropped at the recycling centre, door locked behind you. Thank you for taking care of our cabin.
